I did this on the Silver Comet Trail today, and have the video to prove it (now all I need to do is edit the video and load it up). The whole trip took 7 1/2 hours, and I’m a bit banged up, but I even had the energy to go see my friend Don Sherrill tonight who had a birthday bash.

Today at Best Friend Park I broke the 300 Mile barrier, ending my 3.3-mile ride at 302.5 to be exact… I’m a little slower getting there the second time around. Back on December 3rd, 2010 I made it to 300 after only 4 months. This year it took me 4 1/2 months to make the same breakthrough, about 2 weeks longer. The bright side, however, is that I’m riding more miles in a single day with less trips.

1000-Mile Project

Today I logged 3.6 miles at Best Friend Park, bringing my May total to 34.6 and my Year-to-date total to 299.2. While I’m happy to almost be breaking 300, I’ve fallen behind in my goal to reach 1000 miles by year’s end. With over 37% of the year gone, I’ve ridden less than 30% of my goal!

My minimum goal for this month was to ride 80 miles. My “outrageous goal,” however, was to do 100, with one 40-mile ride in a day. I can still do this, but it will take a lot of peddling to get there before May 26th when my niece comes from Germany and we’re all heading to Florida. After that, unicycling is kind-of iffy for a week.

Hey, I got it: I’ll do 14 miles between now and next Saturday, then ride 40 on Saturday. That will leave less than 12 miles to complete next week. OK. Check!

If (when) I complete my “outrageous” goal this month, I will only need to average 90.6 miles each month for the rest of the year. Piece of cake, huh? As time goes on, I’ll no doubt get stronger (barring injury), so I suspect I’ll complete my goal by November or early December.

Unicycling the Silver Comet for 30 Miles!

In preparation for the “Big” ride for my 60th birthday in August (60 miles in one day), I managed to pump out 30 miles on the Silver Comet Trail today – 15 in and 15 back. Being Monday, the trail was very quiet, cool and sunny. Perfect day for a ride. Dedicated this ride to 93-year old Haynes Rogers.

Someone STOLE My Unicycle!!

OK. Whodunnit?? My 36″ “Gold Goose” Unicycle was taken out of my car last night by some thieving pranksters . . . right before I was prepared to break my 20-mile one-day mileage record at the Big Creek Greenway. I had to settle for 3 miles riding to and from Best Friend Park on my 29″ incher.

1000-Mile Project

My goals for 2012:

Ride 1000 miles for the Himalayan Childrens Charities (this goal remains the same as last year’s),
Raise at least $1000 for the charity, and . . .
Ride 60 Miles in ONE DAY on or around the time of my 60th Birthday!

The 60 mile goal is lofty since I’ve never ridden over 20 in one day before! Also, since I only raise $500 for the orphans last year, my goal has doubled in that department.
